One World - Many Dreams

Imagine if... we all learned more about the people, plants, animals, fish, oceans and land of our planet and then raised our voice to boldly imagine a bright future full of hope. Emerson urged us:
"to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, or a garden patch...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!"
Please use this blog to share facts that inspire you to imagine another reality. Then share with us your imagine if... consider it a gift to the world just to begin picturing a solution.

An invitation to IMAGINE a better world.

The ocean occupies more than 70% of the earth's surface, and 80% of the planet's life lives there, yet less than 10% has been explored by humankind to date. --Deep Blue the documentary

Imagine if...we spent as much time exploring and honoring life beneath the waves as we do polluting and overfishing it. There is a whole other world to explore, if we are not careful, much of it will be destroyed before we even get a chance to visit.

  1. "a minority of the world's population (17%) consumes most of the world's resources (80%). This leaves almost 5 billion people to live on the remaining 20%. As a result, billions of people are living without basic necessities such as food, water, housing, sanitation, health etc..." --www.worldcentric.org

Imagine if... Everyone in the world's 17% donated one dollar to these homeless and starving people.

Consequently, they were hunted and trapped relentlessly until they eventually disappeared from most of the United States"

imagine if...more people explored the ocean instead of doing nothing all day, they could find somehting new, like a cure for a disease and see the beauty of it.

  4. "more people in the United States think that we should have more power lines than windmills so as the amount of power lines goes up the population of animals and plants goes down."

Imagine if... We used more windmills and solar power than power lines.

  5. Gina Gallant has always been an inventor. In first grade she invented a type of paper made from broccoli. (Really.) In fifth grade she invented a safer bike helmet. At age 15, she designed a new type of asphalt made from recycled plastic bottles.

Imagine if.. children in school were taught to think outside the box, and use their imaginasions, just like Gina. Kids can make it happen. I would like to make an invention that really made people say "hhmmm.." What if we could make shoes out of grass?

  7. Child Abuse
“Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime.”
    Herbert Ward
“Child abuse does not go away, but 90 percent of child abuse is preventable,”
    Karen Adams

Child abuse is such a horrible and depressing thing. Did you knwo that apporoximately 30,000 children were reported abused or neglected in 2005.There are a few different kinds of abuse here they are and there stats.
    Neglect 53.5%
    Physical Abuse 22.7%
    Sexual Abuse 11.5%
    Emotional Abuse Approx. 6%
    Medical Neglect Approx. 6%

    Imagine if...
there was a system that children could go to and stay when they were being abused so who ever was abuseing them couldn't hurt them

  8. At age 15, Gina designed a new type of asphalt made from recycled plastic bottles.

Gina came up with her idea for "soda-pop pavement" when she and her family were riding through a place called Cash Creek near their hometown of Prince George, British Columbia. The local landfill was overflowing so badly, the family started calling the place "Trash Creek."

Gina knew that 1/3 of the material in landfills is plastic and isn't being used in asphalt. So she worked at the Husky Oil refinery for a couple of months, and there she developed her new asphalt, which she named "PolyAggreRoad." Plans are underway to use the new blend to pave roads this summer.

Imagine if.... We used plastic to make asphalt and we didn't burn as much plastic, the earth and the people in it would be more healthy.

  9. EarthTrust is working against time and working against the odds, to educate the world about dolphin intelligence and abilities in time to halt huge kills which threaten many of their populations. It's a fight we can win: Earthtrust has saved millions of dolphins in past campaigns, and our research has made history in learning about the dolphin mind. This information and these images are changing the world. earthtrust.org/appledonate.html

Imagine if...lots of people come in and help save our dolphins and then we could save more dolpins at a time.Maybe help the population. In 50 years we moght not have these creatures in the wild.

  10. If sealers continue to harvest at the same rates over the next few years, it could spell trouble for the herd population, according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans' leading marine mammal scientist.

Dr. Garry Stenson said the combination of high mortality and low reproduction rates has caused the seal population to drop by almost half a million - from 5.8 million to 5.4 million over the last several years.

Those numbers will continue to decline, he said, if the catches remain the same, forcing it to a point where it could be an environmental concern in the very near future.

"It means if we continue to take (the current quota of) 325,000 seals (each year), what we're predicting is that we've got two, maybe three, years before it becomes a conservation concern," he said.

    Decline expected

Imagine if... people did not hunt poor, harmless seals we would not end up with the population decline.

  11. Between 1950-1994 fisherman caught 400% moer fish.Cod in main used to be thick and now they cant catch any because they were so overfished."The heart can think of no devotion grater than being shore to the ocean"said Robert Frost.

Imagine If...The world created a special divice that told the fisherman were the exact fish were.So they woulden't catch other harmless fish.

  12. Starvation
In the U.S. hunger and race are related. In 1991 46% of African-American children were chronically hungry, and 40% of Latino children were chronically hungry compared to 16% of white children.

    Imagine if-
All the left over food people have could get shipped to the people who don’t have any food or all the people that have a lot of money donated a couple of dollars to these suffering people.

  13. Hunger is a reality for nearly 14 million American children.
    --Us Department of Agriculture.

Between 2000 and 2003, the number of of poor children increased by 1.3 million.
--Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

In 2005, major U.S. cities reported a 77% increase in request for emergency food assistance. 54% of those needing help were children and families.
    --U.S. Conference of Mayors.

18.5% of families with children under 6 years old face hunger.
    --U.S. Department of Agriculture

imagine if...people stopped feeding cows as much as they do and started feeding people who need the food.

imagine if...people stopped being so self-centered and started caring for others and not just themselves.

imagine if...people didn’t let food go to waste and if there was somewhere were we could put all that food. No on would go hungry.

  14. Nearly 25% of fish caught get thrown back. 100's of 1,000's of dolphins get caught per year. Dolphins and whales get caught in the nets and die . Nearly 1/3 of sea food comes from farm.

Just to be safer, I think we should get more of our fish from farms. So that we don't have to worry about catching dolphins in the nets. And risk them dieing.
